Effective salary and median effective salary

Effective salary includes various types of compensation and/or reimbursements paid by employers to employees. Unique to the Board of Pensions, effective salary is not the same as the taxable income reported to the IRS or the Social Security Administration.

A median effective salary is used to calculate death and disability benefits and pension credit accruals for any member making less than the median.
