Follow these steps to offer the Retirement Savings Plan to your employees and enroll them in the plan.
-
Adopt the Retirement Savings Plan. Employees in Pastor's Participation are automatically enrolled in the Retirement Savings Plan. For employees who are not in Pastor’s Participation, you will need to select Retirement Savings Plan for each applicable benefit group in your Employer Agreement. Once the Retirement Savings Plan is added to your Employer Agreement, enroll the employee(s) in the plan in Benefits Connect. If you have not yet completed an Employer Agreement, call the Board of Pensions at 800-PRESPLAN (800-773-7752) (TTY: 711).
-
Encourage Retirement Savings Plan participation. The
Retirement Savings Plan employer toolkit offers resources to help raise awareness about the Retirement Savings Plan and the benefits of participating.
-
Employees elect to participate. Employees then log on to Benefits Connect to indicate that they want to participate in the Retirement Savings Plan. They will receive an email from Fidelity Investments, the plan record keeper, with instructions for setting up their Fidelity account and specifying their investment choices.
-
Collect completed
Salary Deferral Agreements from employees who want to enroll. Review for accuracy and give copies of completed forms to employees.
- Keep the Salary Deferral Agreements for your files.
You do not need to send Salary Deferral Agreements to Fidelity or the Board.
-
Initiate payroll process. Reduce or adjust employee pay as indicated on each completed Salary Deferral Agreement.
-
Start sending contributions to Fidelity. Follow the instructions in the
Fidelity Simplified Contribution Platform (SCP) User Guide to remit Retirement Savings Plan contributions. The guide describes how to log in, select preferences, and set up bank account information.
Automatic enrollment/increase, which is available if your payroll system meets certain requirements, can help employees benefit from long-term retirement savings and increase the percentage of pay saved over time. To implement this feature, or if you have any questions related to the Retirement Savings Plan, call the Board of Pensions at 800-PRESPLAN (800-773-7752) (TTY: 711).
