The Board of Pensions’ generous preventive care benefits play an important role in reducing costs and improving outcomes.
As part of our commitment to wholeness and well-being, the Board of Pensions provides generous preventive care benefits with all PPO, EPO, and HDHP Medical Plan options. These benefits exceed Affordable Care Act requirements and the standards of our medical claims administrator, Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield.

By providing these enhanced preventive care benefits, we encourage members to get regular preventive examinations and be proactive about their physical well-being. We recognize the importance of preventive care in:
- reducing healthcare costs
- improving medical outcomes
- even saving lives
Costs and coverage for services
There is no cost to members and their covered spouses and/or children when using network providers for the following:
- yearly well visits with a primary care provider
- annual well-woman visits with a gynecologist
- certain health screenings and immunizations
- additional specified screenings and immunizations for internationally adopted children up to age 18
