Loss of benefits coverage

The loss of your benefits coverage (or coverage for an eligible family member) is a qualifying life event that allows you to elect/change benefits and/or add/remove eligible family members from coverage — provided the event is reported within 60 days.

You can report the loss of benefits coverage on Benefits Connect. See Reporting life events for more additional information.

Examples of situations that could lead to a loss of benefits coverage include the following:

  • Your employment ends or your work hours are reduced below the minimum required for benefits eligibility.
  • Your spouse terminates employment or has a reduction in work hours causing them to lose eligibility for benefits through their employer.
