Loss of benefits coverage

The loss of your benefits coverage (or coverage for an eligible family member) is a qualifying life event that allows you to elect/change benefits and/or add/remove eligible family members from coverage — provided the event is reported within 60 days.

See Reporting life events for more additional information.

Examples of situations that could lead to a loss of benefits coverage include the following:

  • Your employment ends or your work hours are reduced below the minimum required for benefits eligibility.
  • Your spouse terminates employment or has a reduction in work hours causing him or her to lose eligibility for benefits through his or her employer.
