Three reasons to schedule your preventive exam today
February 15, 2022
Getting regular preventive care is one of the best things you can do for your health and for those you love. A preventive exam is also a Call to Health requirement.
The goal of preventive care is to prevent illness, disease, or other health problems, rather than treating a condition that has already been diagnosed. When you have regular preventive exams, your doctor gets to know you and your health history, helping them to provide you with the best possible care. A preventive exam is also the perfect time to ask your doctor any health-related questions you may have. Despite all this, many people put off scheduling this important visit.
Here are three reasons to make that appointment today.
It’s a great Valentine’s Day gift for your loved ones. Taking care of your health is one of the best gifts you can give to those you care about. Even if you’re feeling fine, as part of your preventive exam your doctor will perform health screenings and tests to identify and treat health issues, such as high blood pressure and diabetes, which may have no symptoms in the initial stages. Your doctor can also use your test results to recommend diet, exercise, or lifestyle changes to help you improve or maintain your health, so you can enjoy your best life with family and friends.
It’s a Call to Health requirement. Having a preventive exam every year is a Call to Health* requirement if you’re age 50 or older, or every two years if you are under 50. All three medical options (PPO, EPO, and HDHP)** provide 100 percent coverage (no copays, deductibles, or coinsurance applies) for annual wellness exams with a network primary care doctor as well as for immunizations and health screenings listed on the 2022 Preventive Schedule. And, you’ll receive 400 Call to Health points when you log on to the Call to Health website and record your preventive exam.
Doctors' schedules fill up quickly. With work and personal concerns competing for our time and attention, it’s no wonder many people put off scheduling their preventive exam. Then when you finally contact the doctor’s office, you may have to wait for an appointment. And there’s no need to wait 12 months from your last preventive exam. The Medical Plan covers a preventive exam every calendar year. So, if you had a preventive exam on September 20, 2021, you could have your 2022 preventive exam on March 10, 2022, and it would be covered. When it comes to your health, don’t procrastinate. Instead of waiting until the last minute, make that appointment today — then keep it.
