Medicare Supplement Plan includes new benefits — with no cost increase — for 2022

October 28, 2021

Vision exam and eyewear benefits, along with emotional well-being and life-balance resources, give retirees added value at no additional cost.

The Board of Pensions is pleased to announce that, for the fifth consecutive year, there will be no increase in the monthly cost of Medicare Supplement coverage in 2022. Individual coverage remains at $275, while two individuals pay $550.

Effective January 1, 2022, Medicare Supplement Plan participants will also have new vision coverage and access to the Employee Assistance Plan (EAP). These new benefits are identical to those enjoyed by active members.

  • Vision coverage includes annual routine eye exams and screenings related to certain health conditions through the VSP Choice network, for a $25 copay. It also includes a vision eyewear benefit for eyeglasses or contact lenses for a $25 copay through VSP Choice providers. Visit pensions.org to learn more about vision exam and vision eyewear benefits.

  • The Employee Assistance Plan gives retirees and anyone in their household convenient, confidential access to the full breadth of EAP services, including emotional and family support, financial and legal assistance, and home life referrals through the Board's partnership with Cigna.

"We are thrilled to be able to add these valuable benefits to the Medicare Supplement Plan," said Patricia Haines, Executive Vice President and Chief Benefits Officer. "As we considered enhancements to Medicare Supplement coverage, we focused on benefits that would provide the most value to the greatest number of our retired members and their families."

Effective January 1, 2022, Medicare Supplement participants can link directly to service providers through Benefits Connect to access these new benefits.
